Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology

Current Position:

The 2019-2020 school year is my first year at Vernon Middle School, Vernon Parish and in the state of Louisiana. I am currently a Special Education teacher and coteach 5th grade ELA classes and  small groups.

Previous Position:

I began my teaching career in 2008 in Tampa, Florida, where I cotaught a variety of classes, including 6th grade science and ELA,  and also taught self contained resource classes. From Tampa, I moved to Tennessee where I taught as both a general education and a special education teacher over the 4 years living there. I taught all subjects as a general education teacher in 4th grade and at the middle school level (6th, 7th, 8th) taught math and ELA both in the coteaching/inclusion classroom and also in the resource setting. My most recent experience prior to coming to Vernon Parish, was teaching 6th grade ELA and Math in the inclusion and small group/SPED setting.

Throughout my career, I have held titles such as inclusion coach, SPED team lead and have been exposed to and worked with various curriculum and teaching models. These experiences help shape who I am as a teacher.

Family Information:

I have been married since 2014. We have 2 toddlers who are not yet school aged. We do have a dog, a Westhighland Terrier (Westie), named Mayhem.

We are a military family and my husband is currently stationed at Fort Polk.

Personal Information:

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. Watching and helping my babies learn and grow is amazing to me. On the occassions when I am not with my family or have an opportunity to do something independently, I enjoy reading young adult fiction books. I also enjoy shopping and finding new things to use in decorating the house.
